Great Chell, Stoke-on-Trent born right back Billy Mould began his football career with Summerbank, from where he joined hometown First Division club Stoke City in July 1936 along with Alexander Ormston, making his Football League debut at Wolverhampton Wanderers in March 1938. Mould had played 36 matches for The Potters by the time peacetime football was abandoned after the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939. During the War, Mould spent time serving with The Royal Artillery in Normandy and also in Belfast with a number of other Stoke teammates during which time they turned out for Linfield.
After the War, Mould returned to The Victoria Ground and was handed the club captaincy at the end of the 1940’s, missing only two matches in 1947-48. In July 1952 he signed for Crewe Alexandra after 196 matches for Stoke City, and missed only 4 matches during his debut season, scoring once, in a 2-2 draw with Carlisle United in February 1953, in 69 matches before his retirement in the summer of 1954.
