Mossend, Lanarkshire born wing half or inside forward Andrew Swallow began his football career with Shettleston Celtic and played for Shettleston in 1923 from where he signed for Scottish League club St Johnstone in 1924. He enjoyed six seasons at McDairmid Park from where he was signed by Second Division club Millwall in the 1930 close season, making his Football League debut, playing at centre half, against Reading in September 1930.
From January 1931 Swallow mainly played at inside right for The Lions, spending the following three seasons very much as a fringe player playing inside left, left half, centre half, right half and even left back, and from March 1935 he played 10 matches at right half (in place of Len Newcomb) but couldn’t help Millwall avoid relegation at the end of the season. After their relegation, by when he had scored 3 goals in 43 matches for Millwall, he returned to Scotland to join Morton, which was his last recorded club.
NB in the photograph he stands on the right with Millwall team mate Lem Newcomb,
