Paisley, Renfrewshire born outside right Bobby Nutley began his football career with Blantyre Victoria, from where he joined Scottish League club Hibernian in 1937, making his Scottish League debut against Clyde in September 1937. A Hibernian regular between his debut and the abandonment of peacetime football after the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, by when he had scored 25 goals in 73 matches for Hibs, he continued to play for Hibernian during the War years, scoring 23 goals in 58 wartime matches. After the War he played in the 1946 Victory Cup Final when Hibs lost to Rangers in June 1946, and played one more League match at Queen’s Park that August before signing for First Division club Portsmouth a few days later.
Nutley made his Football League debut against Blackburn Rovers at the end of the month, playing 9 matches for Pompey through to October, scoring once in a 4-3 defeat at Blackpool that September. He then returned to Scottish League club Queen of the South in 1947, his last known club before his retirement.
