Dipton, County Durham born right half back Norman Brunskill began his football career with South Moor Juniors and played for Lintz Colliery in 1929, from where he was signed by First Division club Huddersfield Town in 1930, where he spent two seasons without making The Terriers’ first team. Brunskill moved to Second Division club Oldham Athletic in the 1932 close season, making his Football League debut against Plymouth Argyle that August, and despite their relegation in 1935 he continued as a regular member of their team until he was signed by First Division club Birmingham for £1,300 in October 1936 after 11 goals in 151 matches for The Latics.
At St Andrews he went straight into the first team, and was a regular in The Blues’ line up until being signed by Third Division (North) club Barnsley in November 1938 after 2 goals in 65 matches for Birmingham. However his career was then severely interrupted by the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, by when had scored twice in 32 matches, during which he made guest appearances for Middlesbrough and Hartlepools United. He was released from his contract with Barnsley at the end of the War, when he joined North Eastern League club Workington in 1945, his final club before his eventual retirement.
