Description

Cumnock, Ayshire born inside forward Andrew McCall played for Cumnock Juveniles in 1925 and Cumnock Townhead Thistle in 1926 before joining Scottish League Ayr United in 1927. Originally a half back, he moved further upfield as his career progressed. Described as “strongly built and at his best when the ground is heavy” he was credited with having played “conspicuously well” for Ayr during his seasons at the club, which ended when he moved to St Johnstone in 1935.

In 1938 he was transferred to First Division Huddersfield Town and he made his Football League debut at Everton in January 1939, scoring once in 8 appearances before joining Nottingham Forest in the 1939 close season. He played in all three of Forest’s opening games in the 1939-40 season abandoned due to the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, and he never played senior football thereafter. After the War he played for Highland League club Huntly before retiring.
