Description

Newcastle born centre half James Render began his football career with Heaton Stannington in the early/mid 1930’s, joining Newburn in 1935 and North Shields in 1936. He moved to Third Division (North) club Gateshead in December 1937, making his Football League debut at Darlington two days after Christmas. He played once more for Gateshead in a 2-2 draw with Hull City at Redheugh Park in March 1938, before returning to North Shields where he was still playing when the Second World War broke out in September 1939. After the War he played for Blyth Spartans, his last recorded club before his retirement.

NB in the photograph he sits next to the Northumberland Senior Cup.
