Description

Cleland, Lanarkshire born right half Jock McNab began his football career with Bellshill Athletic and played football while serving in the Army during the First World War before being signed by Liverpool in November 1919, making his Football League debut against Manchester United on New Year’s Day 1920. McNab made only 3 appearances in his first two seasons before breaking into the first team on a regular basis in October 1921, and he was a mainstay of the team that won back to back League Championships in 1921-22 and 1922-23, when he missed only 3 matches during the successful campaign. His reward was Scotland international recognition when he played in a 2-0 victory for the Scots against Wales at Love Street, Paisley in March 1923, although this was to prove his only international cap.

McNab was a regular in The Reds’ line up for four more seasons but lost his regular place in September 1927 after a heavy defeat at Bury and only played twice more before joining Third Division (South) club Queens Park Rangers in June 1928 after 6 goals in 222 appearances for Liverpool. He had two seasons at Loftus Road but lost his place in February 1930 and retired after 2 goals in 59 appearances.
