Description

Cowdenbeath, Fife born right back Louis “Lew” Morgan represented Scotland at schoolboy level, and played junior football joining Crossgates Primrose in July 1928, Lochgelly Celtic in the summer 1929 and Bowhill Rovers in June 1930 before joining Scottish League club Dundee in April 1931, making his debut against St Mirren in August 1931. His progress at Dens Park was rapid. Described during his early Dundee career as “kicking equally well with both feet, he is a sound tackler with terrific speed in recovery”, he played for The Scottish League in a 3-0 defeat to The Irish League at Windsor Park, Belfast in September 1933, although he never went on to full international honours for Scotland.

Morgan transferred to First Division club Portsmouth two years later in August 1935 having scored twice in 152 matches for Dundee, making his Football League debut at Birmingham that October and playing mostly at left back. He was an ever present in 1937-38 and missed only one game in 1938-39, a season when he was part of the Portsmouth team that beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-1 in the 1939 FA Cup Final at Wembley.

After the Second World War he returned to Portsmouth and played 2 FA Cup ties for Pompey in January 1946 before joining Watford in July 1946, where he was an ever present at right back during 1946-47, making 54 appearances for The Hornets before joining non league Chelmsford City in May 1948, already aged 37, where he ended his career.
