Description

Burnley born Jim Sullivan was on the books of both Burnley and Barrow as an amateur during 1922-23 without appearing for either club’s first eleven, and after playing for Crewe College in 1923 he joined Third Division (North) Crewe Alexandra, making his Football League debut against Tranmere Rovers in August 1924, scoring 16 goals during the campaign including a hat-trick in a win at Wigan Borough in January 1925, finishing as the club’s leading goalscorer.

After 22 goals in 35 appearances he was signed by First Division Notts County in October 1926, signing off his Crewe career with a hat-trick against Lincoln City, and scoring a hat-trick the next month in a 4-4 draw against West Bromwich Albion. But at Meadow Lane he was largely on the fringe of the first team, and during his three seasons with County he scored 10 goals in only 24 outings, before joining non league Grantham in 1928. He joined Loughborough Corinthians in 1931 and Gainsborough Trinity in 1932, where he finished his career.
