Description

Newton Stewart, Dumfries & Galloway born left back Duncan Urquhart began his football career with Clinton Vale in 1926 and played for Newtongrange Star in 1927 before joining Hibernian in 1928, making his Scottish League debut against Clyde in February 1929. He made 220 appearances for Hibernian over the next six and a half years, and was selected once for Scotland when he played in a 3-2 defeat to Wales at Ninian Park in October 1933. He was released by Hibs after a heavy Edinburgh 8-3 derby defeat by Hearts in September 1935. Urquhart then signed for Aberdeen but played only 6 times for The Dons before his contract was cancelled in April 1937.

After a trial with Barnsley he joined Third Division (North)  club Barrow in October 1937 and made his Football League debut against Rochdale the same month, going on to make 19 appearances for The Bluebirds before joining Irish League club Cork City in the 1938 close season. However he soon returned to England joining Clapton Orient in October 1938, but couldn’t force his way into The O’s first team, and returned to Irish League football with Waterford in 1939 before the advent of the Second World War in September 1939 effectively ended his career.
