Wigan, Lancashire born inside forward Jimmy Banks began his football career with Starcliffe Celtic in 1908 and played for St Gregory’s in 1909, All Saints in 1910, Spennymoor United in 1911 and Willington in 1912, from where he joined Tottenham Hotspur in 1913, making his Football League debut against Manchester United in February 1914. His career was significantly interrupted by the First World War but after the War he resumed with Spurs, helping them to win the Second Division Championship in 1920.
He went on to play 79 times for Spurs, scoring 10 goals, winning an FA Cup winners medal with them in 1921 when they beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 in the Final at Stamford Bridge. In 1923 he joined Norwich City and was a regular for four seasons at Carrow Road making 136 appearances and scoring 26 goals over the following four seasons. He joined Luton Town in 1927 making 13 more appearances and scoring twice before leaving the professional game, playing for non league London Public Omnibus Company in 1929 before his retirement.
