County Durham born inside forward Tom Elliott joined Second Division Gainsborough Trinity in May 1910 making his debut that October against Barnsley, and playing 11 matches that season before returning to his junior club, West Stanley. He then joined Huddersfield Town in May 1912, and soon established himself in the team, scoring 20 goals in 75 appearances in the 3 seasons before World War One. On the resumption of peacetime football he had a spell on the books of Grimsby Town without making their first team, before moving to Nottingham Forest in June 1920, scoring 7 goals in 28 appearances during 1920-21. In August 1921 he moved to Brentford and played in their inaugural Football League match at Merthyr Town. His 2 seasons at Brentford saw him score 9 goals in 55 games. In September 1923 he returned to the North East to join Durham City, by then in Division 3 (North), and was the club’s top scorer with 13 goals in 29 games. A final move in August 1924 took him to Crewe Alexandra, where he scored 4 goals in 17 appearances, by now 35 years old. He returned to non league football in the North East and played well into his mid 40’s for several local clubs.
