Description

Kilmarnock, Ayrshire born left back David Gibson joined his hometown club from Shawfield in 1919, and played for Killie for six years, making his Scottish League debut against Clyde in August 1919, winning The Scottish Cup with them in his first season when, an ever present over the campaign, he was part of the team that beat Albion Rovers 3-2 at Hampden Park in front of 85,000 spectators, the club’s first Scottish Cup triumph. He was also an ever present in 1920-21, missing just two matches in 1921-22 and he scored once, in a 3-2 home defeat to Celtic in January 1920, in 247 appearances for Kilmarnock before heading south to play in England for Second Division Preston North End in 1925.

He made his Football League debut against South Shields on Boxing Day 1925, and made 15 appearances for The Lilywhites that season. He then took the boat West and joined the fledgling American Soccer League in 1926, playing for Springfield Babes initially making 13 appearances in 1926-27, and then joining Fall River Marksmen in 1927 where he made 41 appearances in 1927-28, moving to Providence Clamdiggers in 1928 where he made 117  appearances over three seasons. He then re-joined Fall River in 1931 playing 11 more matches, only returning in 1932 to join Queen of the South. He played two seasons at Queens before joining Scottish Football Alliance club Galston in 1934.
