Congleton, Cheshire born right back Fred Potts spent 1910-11 on the books at Manchester United without making a first team appearance before joining non league Bacup Borough in 1911, from where he joined First Division club Bradford City in 1912, making his Football League debut at Sheffield Wednesday in April 1913. He played both sides of the First World War for The Bantams and was ever present in 1919-20, their first peacetime season after the War, continuing to play for Bradford City until May 1922, when they were relegated to the Second Division. After 147 appearances for City he joined Congleton Town that summer, his final club before his eventual retirement.
