Codnor, Derbyshire born right half Bill Allcock began his football career as an inside right with Waingroves UMC in 1922 playing for Codnor in 1924, Ilkeston Rangers in 1925, Ilkeston United in 1926, and Midland League clubs Heanor Town in 1927 and Grantham in 1928 before being signed by Second Division club Bradford Park Avenue in May 1930, making his Football League debut at Plymouth Argyle in March 1931.
He spent four seasons at Park Avenue, establishing himself as a first team regular from the end of December 1932 but missed the whole of 1934-35 through an injury sustained in April 1934. Having recovered but without having played again for Bradford, he signed for Barrow in June 1935 after 66 appearances for Park Avenue, and at Houlker Street he again proved a reliable performer, missing only 4 matches in 1937-38 and only one match in the final peacetime season before the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939. The War ended his career, by when he had scored 6 goals in 143 appearances for The Bluebirds.
