Description

Falkirk, Stirlingshire born left half Jimmy Archibald signed for Motherwell in 1914 from Bellshill Athletic having previously played for Cambuslang Rangers in 1912, and played for The Steelmen throughout World War One, scoring 19 goals in 52 appearances during his five seasons at Fir Park. In 1919 he joined Second Division Tottenham Hotspur for £100, making his Football League debut against Bristol City in February 1920 and playing 13 times as Tottenham won the Second Division Championship. However he rarely got a look in over the following two seasons and by the time he joined Aberdare Athletic in the 1922 close season he’d scored once in a win over Everton in March 1921 in 26 games, including an appearance against West Bromwich Albion in The 1920 Charity Shield after Tottenham’s promotion.

He stayed a single season at Aberdare scoring 3 times in 37 games, before a move to Second Division Clapton Orient in 1923, where he scored once in 52 appearances over the next three seasons, managing a season career best 39 first team appearances in 1923-24 before returning to the fringes for his remaining two seasons at Millfields Road. He then joined Southend United in 1926 but failed to make their first eleven and joined non league Margate in 1927, subsequently playing for Tunbridge Wells Rangers in 1929 and Ashford Town in 1930.
