Description

Paisley born winger David Spence started playing for hometown club St Mirren in 1919 before joining Reading a year later making his Football League debut in their inaugural League fixture at Newport County in August 1920. He scored once in 20 appearances in a single season at Elm Park before joining Walsall in the summer of 1921, scoring 4 goals in 49 appearances before First Division Oldham Athletic stepped in for his signature in November 1922. He played 4 matches for Oldham between November and January 1923 but was released at the end of the season and joined Welsh League Pontypridd. He had spells with Aberdare Athletic in 1923-24 and Coventry City in 1924-25 but in both cases failed to make their first elevens, joining non league Taunton United in 1925 and later playing for Reading Serpills in 1926.
