Shotts, Lanarkshire born inside left (who could play in all three central positions) Charlie Rennox played for Scottish League club Dykehead in 1919 before joining Wishaw YMCA in 1920. He joined Second Division Clapton Orient in the close season of 1921 making his Football League debut against Bury that August, scoring 11 goals in his first season and having four seasons in East London scoring 25 goals in 105 matches before joining Manchester United in March 1925.
Described at the time as “an inside forward of the restless, bustling type, has excellent ball manipulation and shoots a strong, straight ball, he scored 18 goals in his first full season at Old Trafford including a hat-trick against Burnley in September 1925 but his goal ratio dropped in 1926-27 and he was transferred to Grimsby Town in 1927 after 25 goals in 68 matches for The Red Devils. However he failed to make the first eleven at Grimsby and joined non league Bangor City in 1928 before a spell with Accrington Stanley in 1928-29 where he again failed to make the first eleven.
