Parkhead, Glasgow born left half (who could play both sides) Billy Thomson started his football career with junior club Blantyre Victoria in 1910, before joining Parkhead in 1911. He joined Scottish League Clyde in 1912, scoring once in 14 appearances for The Bully Wee, from where he moved south of the border to join Second Division Leicester Fosse in 1914, making his Football League debut at Grimsby Town that September, immediately establishing himself as a regular in The Fossils’ line up.
His career was interrupted by the onset of the First World War which forced the suspension of peacetime football in May 1915, and he was loaned to Arthurlie in 1915, and during the War he played for Californian Celtic in 1916 and Kilsyth Rangers in 1917. He spent 1918-19 with Scottish League club Johnstone, but after the resolution of the conflict he returned to Filbert Street playing a further five seasons as a regular for Leicester City, all in the Second Division, before he joined Bristol Rovers in the summer of 1924 having scored 3 goals in 209 appearances for The Foxes both sides of the War. He played a single season at Eastville, appearing 25 times, before returning to Scotland in 1925 to join Inverness Citadel.
