Description

Walsall born wing half Vincent White had won England Junior representative honours when he represented the Birmingham FA against Scotland in one of the contests styled ‘Junior’ internationals (the equivalent of ‘non‐League’ in England), and he originally played for Erdington after the First World War having played Army football during his War Service. He joined Wednesbury Old Athletic in 1920 and signed later the same year for Birmingham as an amateur in May 1920, turning professional the same November. He made his Football League debut in a First Division clash at Tottenham Hotspur in April 1922 and played one further time for Birmingham a week later at Manchester City. Birmingham lost both games by the odd goal. But he left the club and had spells in non league football initially with Ellesmere Port and then with Redditch Town before joining Watford in June 1923. During his first season at Vicarage Road he made all his seven Football League appearances for Watford, and only the last of them brought a victory in a 2-1 win at Northampton Town. Although normally a wing‐half, he scored his goal when playing at inside‐left in a home defeat against Portsmouth. He was released by Watford at the end of the 1924-25 season.
