Leytonstone born inside forward Billy Williams began his football career with Fairbairn House in 1920, and joined Second Division West Ham United in 1921, holding the distinction of becoming the club’s youngest ever full professional when he signed for West Ham at the age of 15. He scored on his West Ham debut at Blackpool in May 1922 in a 3-1 defeat, and although he only played a handful of games in the following two seasons, in 1924-25 he scored 4 goals in 21 appearances for The Hammers. However he failed to break through consistently into the first team and after 9 goals in 44 games he left to join Chelsea in 1927. He had a single season at Stamford Bridge playing twice for the first eleven, before finishing with professional football.
NB in the photograph he stands on the right hand side, with West Ham team mate Harry Hodges.
