Description

Southfleet, Kent born goalkeeper Freddy Wood started his football career with amateur clubs Tufnell Park  in 1912 and Clapton in 1913 before joining Southern League Crystal Palace in 1914. However the First World War interrupted his career and on resumption he joined Millwall, where he was understudy to Joe Lansdale, and for whom he made his Football League debut against Luton Town in April 1921. He was limited to 2 games a season during his 2 League seasons at The Den, but when he moved to Charlton Athletic in the close season of 1922 he immediately became their first choice goalkeeper, being ever present in their 1922-23 season and missing only 3 games in 1923-24. However he lost his place to Charlie Preedy in the autumn of 1924 and joined non league Grays Thurrock United in the summer of 1925 after 102 appearances for The Addicks, playing subsequently for Bostall Heath in 1926.
