Description

Scotswood, Newcastle born centre half Bob Danskin played local football in the North East with Scotswood in 1926, Throckley Welfare in 1927 and Wallsend United in 1928 before joining First Division Leeds United in May 1929, making his Football League debut exactly two years later against Derby County as Leeds were relegated in 1931. He played another 5 games the following season for the Elland Road club, scoring against Swansea Town in January 1932, before joining Bradford Park Avenue in December 1932. His association with Park Avenue lasted both sides of the Second World War, always in the Second Division, becoming club captain, and by the time he played his last match against Millwall in September 1947 already aged 39 he had scored 6 goals in 282 appearances for them.

NB in the photograph Danskin challenges Johnny Arnold of Fulham as Bradford Park Avenue played a match at Craven Cottage on 14th March 1936. Arnold scored the fourth goal in Fulham’s 4-1 win.
