Liverpool born goalkeeper Tom Flower (sometimes known as Flowers) played for Cadby Hall in 1933 from where he joined Liverpool in 1934, where he was understudy to the consistent Arthur Riley and never made a first team appearance for the Reds. He joined Third Division (South) Notts County in the 1938 close season and went straight into their first team, making his Football League debut at Swindon Town that August and missing only 6 games. However he had played 2 of the 3 opening fixtures of the 1939-40 season when the advent of the Second World War forced the postponement of peacetime football, and although he returned to Meadow Lane after the conflict’s resolution, he only played one further FA Cup tie, a 2-2 draw against Bradford City in November 1945, before retiring from the game after 43 appearances for The Magpies.
