Kirkcaldy born inside forward David Galloway started his football career with Wellesley Juniors in 1926 and soon joined Scottish League Raith Rovers in 1927. He moved to Aberdeen in April 1931 scoring once in 14 appearances before a move to England with Second Division Preston North End in the summer of 1932, with Galloway making his Football League debut at Plymouth Argyle that September. His two seasons at Preston saw a single goal in 31 games before he joined Port Vale, where he made 12 appearances during 1934-35. He then moved to Carlisle United and enjoyed 3 seasons scoring 14 goals in 122 appearances, including being an ever present in 1936-37. He joined Clapton Orient in the 1938 close season but made only 2 appearances for their first eleven that late summer before joining non league Tunbridge Wells Rangers in 1939.
