Although in and out of the side, when given the opportunity he was a regular goalscorer for Swansea, including a hat-trick in a 5-0 won over Preston North End in March 1929 and another against Burnley in November 1931 in a season in which he finished The Swans’ second top goalscorer with 15 goals, and when he joined Port Vale along with Billy Tabram for a £400 fee in May 1933 he had netted 36 times in 98 appearances for Swansea.

He quickly made an impact at his new club, scoring both Vale’s goals in a 2-1 win over Southampton at The Old Recreation Ground on 2nd September.
