Description

Failsworth, Lancashire born goalkeeper Jack Hall played junior football for Failsworth in 1930 and Newton Heath Locos in 1931 before joining Second Division club Manchester United, for whom he made his Football League debut at Oldham Athletic in September 1933, staying in the team until the following February when former England goalkeeper Jack Hacking was signed and took over the gloves. Hacking started the 1934-35 season as the principal glovesman but Hall got back into the team in early 1935 and made 36 appearances as Manchester United won the Second Division Championship in 1935-36.

At the end of the season he was transferred to Tottenham Hotspur after 73 appearances for The Red Devils, and after a full season in the Tottenham goal in 1936-37 playing 44 matches, he fell out of favour and made only 14 more appearances between then and the suspension of football due to the outbreak of the Second World War, which effectively ended his football career. During the War he guested for several teams and after the War played non league football through the late 1940’s for Stalybridge Celtic and Runcorn.
