Kettering, Northamptonshire born wing half Harry Hanger began his football career with hometown Southern League club Kettering in 1902 before joining Northampton Town in 1903, spending two seasons at The County Ground before returning to Kettering in 1905. From there he joined Second Division Bradford City, making his Football League debut against Chesterfield Town in April 1906 but playing only 8 times in his first two seasons for The Bantams.
He broke into the first team on a regular basis in the autumn of 1907, and despite playing an FA Cup tie for Kettering at Bury on loan in January 1909, a match lost 8-0, he was a regular in The Bantams’ team before joining Southern League Crystal Palace in May 1909 after 4 goals in 79 appearances. He scored 7 goals over the next six years for The Eagles in 178 appearances before the suspension of peacetime football due to the First World War, and was also the Crystal Palace club captain for several seasons. After the War he re-joined Kettering Town, playing there until his eventual retirement.
His younger brother Percy also played for Kettering and in the League for Leicester Fosse.
