Description

Glasgow born full back Billy Henry began his football career with Blantyre Victoria in 1905 before signing with Rangers in 1906 and then Falkirk in 1908. He transferred to Second Division Leicester Fosse in September 1909 making his Football League debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers that September, being ever present during his debut season. He played 96 times for Leicester before First Division Manchester City purchased him for £1,000 in November 1911, the highest fee that Leicester had received for one of their players at the time. He made his Manchester City debut in a 1-1 draw at Sunderland the following Saturday. He went on to make 157 appearances for The Citizens in which he scored one goal, the only goal of the game at Notts County in September 1912. The First World War interrupted his time at City but he did spend eight years there, the majority of his career, returning after the War to play 13 times for the first eleven before joining St Bernard’s in 1920. He never got a first-team cap for Scotland, but did get international honours in a military game between England and Scotland at Goodison Park in May 1916.
