Denaby, Doncaster born inside forward Tom Hinchcliffe played for Denaby United from 1930 from where he joined Grimsby Town for £300 in October 1933, although he needed to wait until November 1936 to make his Football League debut which came in a First Division match at Sheffield Wednesday. The following season he broke into the Grimsby Town team more regularly, but was sold to Huddersfield Town in February 1938 after 5 goals in 28 appearances.
He scored on his Huddersfield debut at Wolves, but his stay at Leeds Road was brief and he joined Derby County in November 1938 after 4 goals in 13 appearances for The Terriers. However, having scored once in 6 appearances for The Rams the outbreak of the Second World War effectively ended his career, although after the War he briefly joined Nottingham Forest in May 1946, for whom he had guested during the War, playing once for them in the Second Division at Barnsley in August 1946, and then having a spell at non league Gainsborough Trinity in 1947 before re-joining Denaby United later the same year.
NB in the photograph he stands on the left with Grimsby team mate Teddy Buck.
