Description

Sheffield born inside forward Albert Hutchinson played forĀ Atlas & Norfolk in 1928 before joining Luton Town, making his Football League debut at Coventry City in December 1929, scoring in a 5-1 defeat. He had a single season with The Hatters, scoring once in 5 appearances, before joining Torquay United in the summer of 1930. He played for Torquay throughout the 1930’s, heĀ  was eventually made United’s captain and was the club’s leading scorer for both the 1934-35 and 1935-36 seasons.

He proved his versatility by playing at every position on the pitch during his Torquay career, even filling in for injured goalkeeper Percy Maggs during a home game against Brighton & Hove Albion where he managed to save a penalty. His career was only finished by the onset of The Second World War, by when he had scored 85 goals in 342 appearances for The Gulls, which at the time was a club record.Ā He continued to play for Torquay United during the 1939-40 Wartime League before joining Buxton of the Cheshire League for two seasons after the War.
