Cardiff born centre forward Harry Mardon played junior football for Victoria Albion in 1934 before joining Hereford United in 1935, playing a single season at Edgar Street before moving to Third Division (South) Notts County in the 1936 close season. He made his Football League debut against Queen’s Park Rangers in September 1936 and although not a first choice he still managed 9 goals in 17 appearances in his debut season at Meadow Lane. Having scored a further 3 times in 8 games at the start of the 1937-38 season he was transferred to Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic in December 1937, where he managed 2 four goal bursts the same season, the first in a 7-1 thrashing of Southend United on New Year’s Day, the second in a thrilling 5-4 win over Mansfield Town in April 1938. But in November 1938, having lost his place in the Bournemouth first team, he joined Bristol City after 14 goals in 25 appearances for The Cherries. His career at Ashton Gate was effectively terminated by the outbreak of the Second World War, having scored 5 goals in 15 appearances for The Robins.
