Greenock, Renfrewshire born full back Hugh (also known as Harry) McNaught played for Glasgow University in 1902 before joining amateur club Queen’s Park in 1903, making his Scottish League debut that December in a match against Hibernian at Hampden Park. He played 3 Scottish League and 4 Inter-City League matches for The Spiders before joining Dundee in 1904, from where he joined Heart of Midlothian in the 1905 close season. He made his Jambos debut at Hibs in August 1905, making 29 appearances for them in 1905-06. He then moved south to join First Division Sheffield United, making his Football League debut, and his only appearance for The Blades, at Bolton Wanderers in September 1906. In 1907 he returned to Scotland to join Hearts and had another spell in English League football on the books of Nottingham Forest in 1909-10, but he didn’t make their first team.
