Newcastle born centre forward Walter Miller began his football career with Wallsend Park Villa in 1904 and first played professionally in Scotland, joining Third Lanark in 1906. He then joined First Division Sheffield Wednesday, and made his Football League debut for Wednesday at Manchester United in March 1908. But having made only 3 appearances for The Owls, he joined Southern League West Ham United during the close season, making his Irons debut that October at Queen’s Park Rangers, and scoring 6 goals in 17 appearances during 1908-09.
He returned to Football League action with Second Division Blackpool, scoring 14 goals in 33 appearances during 1909-10, a tally that left him comfortably The Seasiders’ top scorer. However he lost his place in October 1910 and returned to Third Lanark in 1911 after 15 goals in 39 appearances. After another single season spell with The Warriors, in 1912 he again returned south joining Second Division Lincoln City, scoring 8 goals in 35 appearances before joining Southern League Merthyr Town in 1913. He finished his career by joining Dundee in 1914.
