After a brief spell in non-league football with Redditch Town later in 1924, he settled at Third Division (North) Doncaster Rovers, whom he joined in August 1925, and where he scored 4 goals in 158 games over five seasons.

He moved to Second Division Bristol City in May 1930 but played only game in the 1930-31 season for them, returning to the Third Division with Barrow in June 1931 where he got more playing time, spending 2 seasons as a near ever present, making 69 appearances for the Cumbrians. He joined Walsall in June 1933, making 23 appearances for The Saddlers in 1933-34, before moving to Southport in July 1934, where he made 13 appearances.
