Description

Bootle, Liverpool born right half Charlie Morgan began his senior career on the books of Liverpool in 1902 but he didn’t manage to play for their first eleven during his two seasons at Anfield. He moved to Southern League Tottenham Hotspur in May 1904 and played 3 times in Western League and “other” fixtures without making any Southern League or FA Cup appearances for Spurs, before signing for new Second Division club Leeds City in July 1905. He made his Football League debut in their inaugural League fixture at Bradford City that September and was a first team regular in 1905-06, scoring once in 41 appearances.

However he lost his place the following season due to injury and played only 6 more games for Leeds, reverting to being mainly a reserve player as he had been in most of his career. He remained at Elland Road for another couple of seasons before choosing to rejoin former Leeds City boss Gilbert Gillies at Bradford Park Avenue. He appeared once in the League for Bradford at Manchester City on New Year’s Day 1910 before moving on to Halifax Town in 1911, where he ended his playing days.

After Leeds City’s expulsion from the League in 1919, Morgan was one of seven men elected as the first management committee of the newly formed Leeds United.
