Blackheath, Worcestershire born left back Billy Adams began his football career with Blackheath United before the First World War, and played for Rowley Victoria in 1918 before joining First Division West Bromwich Albion with the War ended in March 1919, making his Football League debut at Derby County in September 1920. Adams was only a regular in The Baggies’ first eleven in one of his eight seasons at The Hawthorns, missing only two matches in 1922-23 as Albion finished 7th in the League Championship, but he never featured more than 16 times in any other season and played just once as they finished runners up in the League in 1924-25.
After Albion’s relegation in 1927, Adams didn’t feature in their Second Division campaign before a transfer to Barrow in March 1928 after 98 appearances for The Baggies, where he made 25 appearances before joining Newport County in August 1929. However he didn’t feature for The Ironsides in 1929-30 and returned to the Midlands joining non league Cradley Heath in 1930, subsequently playing for Kidderminster Harriers in 1931 before his eventual retirement.
