Description

Shildon, County Durham born left back Bill Allison began his football career with Shildon in 1928 before being signed by Herbert Chapman’s Arsenal in 1929, spending two seasons on The Gunners’ books without making a first team appearance, before joining Third Division (South) Clapton Orient in 1931. He made his Football League debut against Crystal Palace the same August, and made 14 appearances for The O’s during 1931-32 before moving back to the north east to join Darlington in the 1932 close season. He made 58 appearances for The Quakers over the next two seasons before returning to non league football with Eden Colliery Welfare in 1934.

He returned to Football League action in June 1935, joining Hartlepools United, where he gave “excellent service” and was a first team regular for the next three seasons, being described as “a strong and fearless tackler”, making 122 appearances for ‘Pools before joining Northern League Spennymoor United in 1938.
