North Ormesby, Yorkshire born right half Harry Allport began his senior football career with Middlesbrough Ironopolis and played in their only season in the Football League making his debut in their inaugural fixture against Liverpool in September 1893 and scoring once, in a 2-0 win over Ardwick (now Manchester City) later the same month, in 23 appearances during 1893-94. At the end of their only League season, despite finishing 11th in the Second Division, Ironopolis resigned from the Football League and was disbanded due to its financial problems, as gate receipts did not cover the cost of players’ wages and the costs of travelling to fixtures in distant parts of England.
Allport then joined Middlesbrough where he was a member of their triumphant 1895 FA Amateur Cup success, when they beat Old Carthusians at Headingley in the Final, and won it again in 1898 when they beat Uxbridge 2-1 at The Crystal Palace. He was still a Middlesbrough player when the club was elected to The Football League in 1899 and he played 32 games, missing only 3 League matches in their inaugural season, including playing in the club’s first League match at Lincoln City in September 1899, before retiring in 1900.
