Description

Scottish born wing half Frank “Ernie” Anderson began his senior football career in Irish League football with Distillery in 1913 and returned to Scotland to play for Clydebank in 1914. After the First World War he joined Southern League Cardiff City in 1919, and was signed by Second Division Stockport County in 1920, making his Football League debut against South Shields that December. He returned to Cardiff, The Bluebirds by now in the First Division, following Stockport’s relegation in 1921 having played 3 goals in 25 games for The Hatters, but he only appeared in one top flight match for Cardiff in a home defeat against Oldham Athletic that September before joining Aberdare Athletic in the 1922 close season. He scored once in 18 appearances for Aberdare during 1922-23 before his retirement from the professional game.
