Description

Killamarsh, Derbyshire born inside forward Billy Batty played for High Green Swifts, Thornecliffe and Mortomley before joining Sheffield United in April 1906, making his Football League debut against Blackburn Rovers in September 1907, scoring in a 4-2 victory. He scored 8 goals in 40 appearances for The Blades before a move to Bristol City in April 1910, where he found opportunities limited and only played 5 games before moving to Lincoln City in 1911, who at the time had temporarily lost their League status, winning the Midland League Championship with The Imps in his single season at Sincil Bank.

He joined Swindon Town in May 1912, being part of their team that won The Southern League Championship in 1913-14, playing for them both sides of the First World War and being second top scorer with 12 goals in their inaugural Football League season of 1920-21. While with Swindon he also represented The Southern League on 4 occasions in inter-league matches. He scored 46 goals in 116 games at The County Ground including 18 goals in 41 League appearances after they gained League status, before joining Barnsley in June 1922, where he only made a single appearance at Crystal Palace that November before retirement.
