Description

Kettering, Northamptonshire born wing half Bert Bellamy began his football career with Kettering White Cross in 1919 soon after the end of the First World War and played for hometown Central Alliance club Kettering Town in 1920, from whom he joined Third Division (South) Watford in May 1921, making his Football League debut in Watford’s inaugural League fixture against Swansea Town in August 1921.

Initially he performed outstandingly as a left-half at the start of his Watford career, but his form soon fell away and he was in and out of the side for the remainder of his two seasons with the club. He joined Swansea Town in June 1923 after 2 goals in 37 appearances for The Hornets, and was an ever present as Swansea won the Third Division (South) Championship in 1924-25.

He joined Brentford in May 1926 after 2 goals in 96 appearances for The Swans, and had a single season at Griffin Park playing 39 matches before joining non league Wellingborough Town as player-manager and trainer in May 1927. He played for United Counties Bus Company in 1928 and Kidderminster Harriers in 1929 before a series of coaching roles in Finland and The Netherlands after he retired through the 1930’s.
