Liverpool born centre forward John Blair was an amateur footballer who played for Liverpool University during the First World War and joined Everton from Northern Nomads in 1919, making his Football League debut against Derby County in April 1920 scoring twice in a 4-0 victory. He made 2 more appearances that season, had one FA Cup outing at Sheffield Wednesday in February 1921 and appeared twice more in 1921-22 scoring against Newcastle United at Goodison Park in September 1921. He won an England Amateur cap in January 1921 playing against Wales at Molineux. He played for non league Congleton Town in 1921 before joining First Division Oldham Athletic in 1922, and playing 5 times and scoring once during their relegation season. He then scored an impressive 15 goals in 19 matches and was the club’s top scorer during 1923-24, but only played 4 more times, scoring once, in 1924-25 before playing for Mold Town and Northern Nomads during 1925. He then joined Arsenal in 1926 but didn’t make their first eleven. He spent the rest of the 1920’s playing for Ilford, Northern Nomads and Derbyshire Amateurs.
