Perth born goalkeeper George Blyth began his football career with Perth Roselea in 1926 and played for Perth YMCA in 1927 and Newburgh West End in 1928 before joining Scottish League Hibernian in 1929, making his Scottish League debut at Hamilton Academical in January 1930. He made 147 appearances for Hibs over a six season stay at Easter Road described at the time as having “safe hands and sureness of eye”.
He joined St Johnstone in 1935 before a move that summer to Third Division (South) Notts County in the 1935 close season, making his Football League debut at Bristol Rovers the same August. Although he struggled to establish himself in The Magpies’ team in 1935-36, he was an ever present the following season, and missed only 3 games in 1937-38 before joining Midland League club Grantham in 1938 after 106 appearances for Notts County.
