Nantwich, Cheshire born outside right Harry Boston began his football career with Shavington Town and played for Cheshire County League club Nantwich in 1922 before signing for First Division club Bolton Wanderers in 1923, making his Football League debut against Aston Villa in January 1924. Very much a fringe player at Burnden Park, he made 12 appearances during their 1925-26 campaign including scoring in their FA Cup replay win over Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic in February 1926 during Bolton’s Cup run that saw them win the FA Cup at Wembley that April, however, this was the only campaign during Boston’s six seasons with The Trotters where he made double figures numbers of appearances.
After 3 goals in 39 appearances for Bolton Wanderers, Boston signed for Second Division club West Bromwich Albion in 1929, where he scored on his debut in a defeat to Stoke City, but where again he was never a regular, scoring 6 goals in 27 appearances for The Baggies over two seasons at The Hawthorns, including 16 appearances as West Bromwich were promoted in 1930-31 as Second Division runners up. He joined Swansea Town in the 1931 close season and made 19 appearances for The Swans during 1931-32 before returning to non league football with Nantwich in 1932.
