Broomhill, Northumberland born full back Alex Bradford played in local North East football for Broomhill in 1913 and East Chevington in 1914 before World War One, before joining Ashington after the War had finished in July 1919, playing in the North Eastern League and from 1921 the Third Division (North). Bradford made his Football League debut against Grimsby Town that August in Ashington’s inaugural League fixture, playing 34 games that season and scoring once as they finished a creditable 10th place. However he soon lost his place and played only sporadically in 1922-23, his 7 further games proved his last League appearances returning to non league football in 1923 playing thereafter for Amble in 1927, for East Chevington Black Watch in 1928, North Broomhill Welfare in 1929, Eshott in 1930 and Hauxley United in 1931.
