Walsall, Staffordshire born centre half Arthur Bradford began his football career with Bloxwich All Saints and played for Talbot Stead Tube Works in 1922 from where he signed for Second Division Southampton initially as an amateur in September 1922, turning professional two months later, but he had to wait until April 1924 for his Football League debut which came at Crystal Palace. He broke into the first team in February 1925 and played in the 1925 FA Cup semi final, which Southampton lost 2-0 to eventual winners Sheffield United at Stamford Bridge.
He served The Saints for 14 seasons, all of which were in the Second Division, becoming club captain in 1932, leaving at the end of 1935-36 after 320 appearances and 7 goals for The Saints, joining Isle of Wight club Cowes, winning a Hampshire Senior Cup winners medal before his retirement in 1937. By the time he left Southampton, only Albert Shelley and Stan Woodhouse had made more appearances for the club, and over his career he received two benefits in recognition of his service.
