Bradford City Team Group 1928-29, they finished Champions of Division Three (North). This photograph could have been taken at several games where they played this line up, but it was certainly taken in the 1928 half of the season as Moore and Edmunds essentially didn’t feature after the end of the year.
The line up features:
Willie Watson, Ralph Birkinshaw, Sam Russell, Sam Barkas, Willie Summers, Wattie Shirlaw, George Turner Livingstone (trainer)
Tommy Moon, Trevor Edmunds, Tommy Cairns, Charlie Moore, Jimmy Randall
The most famous of these men were undoubtedly future England captain, Sam Barkas, as well as 8 times capped Scottish international Tommy Cairns who was very successful during his time at Glasgow Rangers. Mention too for George Turner Livingstone, the team’s trainer, who had had a classic Victorian and post Victorian football career, playing for both Rangers and Celtic, Manchester City and Manchester United, Liverpool, Sunderland, Hearts, Dumbarton and Scotland, spending more than 40 years as a player, manager and trainer. Bradford City, whom he left in 1935, would prove to be his last job in professional football.
