Wallsend, Northumberland born centre forward Lowingham “Lowe” Braidford began his football career prior to the First World War with Wallsend Town in 1914 and joined Scottish League Clydebank in 1915. In July 1921 he signed for Dundee Hibernian (now Dundee United), scoring 6 goals in 36 appearances for The Terrors before returning to the north east to join Third Division (North) Hartlepools United in the 1922 close season.
He made his Football League debut against Southport that September scoring 9 goals in 29 appearances for ‘Pools in his single season at Victoria Park before going to the United States to play in the nascent American Soccer League for Philadelphia Field Club in 1923. He returned to League action with Northampton Town in the spring of 1924, scoring the only goal of the game on his debut in a win over Charlton Athletic at The County Ground, but he didn’t score again in his next four matches and was released at the season end, joining non league Preston Colliery.
