Dunaskin, Ayrshire born left half Danny Brannigan began his football career with Glenburn Rovers from where he signed for Third Division (North) club Halifax Town in June 1927, making his Football League debut at Rotherham United the same December. He played 15 matches for The Shaymen but moved on in the 1928 close season, signing for Southern League club Peterborough & Fletton United, but four years later he returned to Football League action when he signed for Gateshead in July 1931.
He played 17 matches during the 1931-32 campaign as Gateshead finished runners up in the Third Division (North), narrowly missing out on promotion, and the following season only missed 5 matches, scoring his only goals for The Head that season in wins over Southport and Mansfield Town. However he lost his place after a single match in August 1933 and played only twice more for Gateshead during 1933-34 before joining Hexham after 76 appearances, his last known club.
NB the photograph was taken before the League match between Walsall and Gateshead at Fellows Park on 15th October 1932. Walsall won the match 2-0.
